Public Programs Manager

The Amon Carter Museum is seeking a Public Programs Manager to develop and implement a broad range of public programs and resources designed to assist visitors of all ages and abilities, including adults, children, and families, to experience and understand the Carter’s collections and special exhibitions. Programs and resources should effectively serve the Carter’s existing visitors and seek to bring in new audiences.

Duties include:

  • Work collaboratively with museum staff, individuals, and organizations to conceptualize, plan, execute, and evaluate exhibition- and collection-driven public programs, gallery guides, and hands-on activities for a variety of audiences including adults, children, and families.
  • Design accessible programs and services for adults and children.
  • Maintain the public programs calendar and program attendance statistics and evaluation data.
  • Build audiences for public programs by working cooperatively with the Public Information Officer and the Head of Education to generate promotional and marketing copy for printed and electronic publications.
  • Work closely with the education team to generate creative ideas for programs and services for a variety of audiences.
  • Work with the Head of Education and the Director of Development to secure funding for public programs. Ensure that all funding stipulations are fulfilled in compliance with program grants.
  • Maintain public programs budget; contact presenters about programs; produce presenter correspondence, contracts, and travel itineraries; maintain presenter and program files; produce check requests and purchase orders and obtain vendor bids in compliance with museum purchasing system guidelines.
  • Coordinate program staffing needs with the Head of Education and recruit, coordinate, and oversee volunteers and Education staff helping with public programs.

Qualifications

  • B.A. degree in art education, art history, art, or related field.
  • Minimum two years of public program work experience with a record of successfully executing programs for a variety of museum audiences.
  • Ability to work congenially and productively with museum staff and the community at large.
  • Professional presence; diplomatic and comfortable in dynamic situations.
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills for audiences of all ages and abilities.
  • Ability to manage details of multiple projects and deadlines and work under varying degrees of supervision and with multiple responsible parties.
  • Knowledge of visitor studies and evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience with budget management and file organization.
  • Experience with legal aspects of contracts.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office products.
  • Flexibility with work schedule, including some nights and weekends.

Lead Sales Associate

Lead Sales Associate, twenty-seven hours per week, part-time. The Amon Carter Museum seeks a Lead Sales Associate to perform daily sales activities and assist the Retail Manager with oversight and operational function of the museum’s retail sales.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist Retail Manager with Sales Associate training and supervision.
  • Operate as floor manager in the absence of a Retail Manager: perform opening and closing procedures in the absence of the manager (i.e. opening / closing registers, opening checklists, bank deposits, filling in, recovery, cleaning, retrieves/sends voicemail, accepts/receives shipment) .
  • Assist visitors with merchandise selection; utilize a working knowledge of the books and merchandise for sale, as well as the location of stock items in the supply area.
  • Handle visitor service issues. Utilize customer service skills to extend the visitors’ museum experiences; be conversant about museum collections, exhibition programs, and activities.
  • Accurately process bookstore sales; prepare daily sales report.
  • Check merchandise supply in store before each shift, complete restocking form as needed, keep shelves stocked, and maintain required level of reserve merchandise on-hand.
  • Keep merchandise attractively displayed and bookstore areas neat and free of litter; replace torn book jackets; price items, etc.
  • Attend departmental meetings outside of museum hours; participate positively in off-site workshops and training opportunities.
  • Assist with counting and preparing bookstore inventory.
  • Ensures that the client remains the top priority.
  • Refer all duties that require managerial experience and/or approval to the Retail Manager (i.e. disciplinary action, hiring, and terminating associates).

The requirements include:

  • High school diploma; college or art background preferred.
  • One year retail bookstore or related sales experience.
  • Ability to organize, delegate, prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to accurately operate a point of sale system and reconcile daily sales; make correct change. Capture accurate information for all transactions including signatures, addresses, and original receipt data.
  • Must be outgoing a pleasant with the public.
  • Must possess and display a special interest in art and books.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and congenially with customers and staff about museum bookstore merchandise and programs.
  • Proficient with MS Office, Outlook, Access database preferred.
  • Must satisfactorily complete all departmental training requirements.
  • Must be responsible, reliable, and available to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, some weekends, holidays, and scheduled evenings as needed.
  • Must be able to move merchandise and stock merchandise shelving; must be able to perform warehouse duties as requested.
  • Must present a neat, professional appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of post offer drug, alcohol, and background screens.

Facilities Assistant

The Amon Carter Museum seeks a qualified individual to join the Facilities team and perform duties related to cleaning assigned areas of the building, vacuum, buff, and polish a variety of flooring surfaces; provide assistance for museum events including moving furniture as requested; assist with minor tasks (i.e. open blocked sinks or lavatories, paint offices and hallways; and change light bulbs). The successful candidate will possess the minimum of a high school diploma (college or trade school education preferred); experience in building maintenance or janitorial work; training on cleaning fine furniture and special floor surfaces preferred; training and experience with cleaning chemicals, MSDS sheets, and organic cleaning products required; ability to move items up to 50 lbs; ability to walk and stand for periods of time; ability to work in cramped or elevated areas of the building; ability to take accurate measurements and follow written directions; ability to read the safety materials required to perform the duties of the position; available for overtime and weekend work as scheduled; professional presence; diplomatic, comfortable in a customer service environment; computer proficiency with MS Office products desirable.
