Dallas photographer David H. Gibson brings his deep experience in theater lighting and his poetic commitment to appreciating the moment to his longstanding photographic explorations of nature. He took up the camera seriously in 1965, inspired by an Ansel Adams photograph and, since then, has created works that similarly explore natural beauty and atmospheric effervescence. Though he has photographed widely across the American West, Gibson continues to repeatedly return to photograph favorite spots in Texas, New Mexico, and Japan, making singular inkjet prints and fine handmade books that reflect changing light and seasons.
The Carter owns 20 of his photographic prints and more than 50 of his limited-edition artist books. These works reveal the continuing appeal of modernist landscape and set an elegant model of specialty bookmaking.
