Born and raised in Southampton, New York, and an enrolled member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation, Jeremy Dennis represents the ancestral practices of his tribe, Indigenous identity, assimilation, and themes of mythology, decolonization, and belonging through photography and digital tools. Through this, he highlights Indigenous presence and autonomy on colonized land and invites audiences to connect to different communities. Dennis earned his BA in studio art at Stony Brook University and his MFA from Pennsylvania State University. He is the lead artist and founder of the nonprofit Ma’s House and BIPOC Art Studio, Inc. on the Shinnecock Reservation. He has received numerous awards and residencies, including the Artist2Artist Fellowship from the Art Matters Foundation and a 2024 fellowship from the Lunder Institute.
