Nicholas Galanin is a contemporary artist of Tlingit and Unangax̂ descent who examines Indigenous culture and resilience as well as the legacy of settler colonialism in North America. Through his installations, photographs, and works in mixed media, he acknowledges the historical, Native stewardship of the territories that constitute the United States. Galanin earned his BFA in jewelry and silversmithing from London Guildhall University, United Kingdom, and his MFA from Massey University, New Zealand. His recognitions include a 2023 Joan Mitchell Fellowship and a 2024 Guggenheim Fellowship in fine arts. In 2023, Galanin was included in ArtReview’s list of most influential people in the contemporary art world.
