    l.c.: Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1847 by N. Currier, in the Clerk's office of the District Court of the Southern District of New York. \ BATTLE OF CERRO GORDO APRIL 18[TH]. 1847. \ The troops ascended the long and difficult slope of Cerro Gordo without shelter, and under the tremendous fire of artillery and musketry with the utmost steadiness, reached the breastworks, drore the \ enemy from them, planted the colors of the 1st Artillery, 3rd and 7th Infantry - the enemy's flag still flying - and after some minutes of sharp firing, finished the conquest wiht the bayonet. \ About 3,000 men laid down their arms, with the usual proportion of field and compnay officers, besides fire generals, served of them of great fistinction- Pinson, Jarrero, La Vega, Neriega, and Obando \ U.s. Army 8,500. About 5000 stands of arms, and 43 pieces of artillery were taken. Mexican Army 12,000. \ 464.\ 464.
