u.c. to u.r. printed on paper label: Shonga-Sa-Pa. BlackDog. \ The youngest of the six principal chiefs of the tribe. \ Is 28 years of age, and was born on the present reser- \ vation. Is the descendant of a long line of chiefs, \ one of whom was principal in establishing peace be- \ tween the Government and the wild tribes. With the \ governor, Joseph, he visited Washington in 1876 to \ adjust various business matters in connection with his \ tribe. Age, 28; height, 5.11 1/2 ; head, 22 3/4; chest, 38.
u.l. to u.r. printed on paper label: Skunk-ta sa-pe, Black Dog. \ Dog black. \ (Note by Dorsey.. It is possible that the real \ meaning is Black Wolf, as shun ke is dog, and \ shunk-tan-a, may be big dog, wolf; A parallel \ case is that of the Omaha, Shan-ge ska, White \ Horse, originally, White Wolf).
