Four Smelting and \ two Ore Sampling Works are among its permanent industries, while over \ three thousand mules and horses are employeed in its transportation business. \ California Gulch, from which $15,000,000 in gold has been washed \ since 1869, lies on the south side of the town. \ Leadville has an elevation of 10,500 feet above sea level.
