c.l. printed: Thomas Moran is one of our greatest scenic \ artists and his most notable achievements are \ American subjects. Two of his masterpieces "The \ Grand Canyon of Arizona" and " The Yellowstone \ Canyon" are hung in the National Capitol at \ Washington. \ " Long before Noah fell adrift in the ark or Adam \ was, forests were growing in Arizona just as in some parts they grow today, and it befell that in the \ course of time they lay prostrate and over them \ swept the waters of an inland sea. Eons passed \ and the sands buried them deep; then the sea vanish- \ ed and when these ancient logs were uncovered to \ the sight of a world that had forgotten them, the \ sybaritic chemisty of nature had transformed every \ one of them into chalcedony, topaz, carnelain, agate \ and amethyst." \ After painting by Thomas Moran.
