    u.l. printed: This monument commemorates the contribution \ made to the early settlement and development of \ the State of Utah and the Western portion of this \ country by the Mormon Battalion. \ This battalion made the longest single march \ known to history. \ This monument is built to represent a pueblo \ with beautiful picturesque figures in relief on \ both sides. \\ The West side tells the story of the enlistment \ and the march; the East side, the discovery of gold \ in California and the home-coming in Salt Lake.
