Four Smelting and two Ore Sampling Works \ are among its permanent industries, while over 3000 mules and horses are employeed in its \ transportation business. \ California Gulch, from which $15,000,000 in gold has been washed since 1869, lies on \ the south side of the town. \ Leadville has an elevation of 10,500 feet above sea level.
