Event Description
Join us as we read The City of Falling Angels by John Berendt. In this intimate look at the “magic, mystery, and decadence” of the city of Venice and its inhabitants, the book starts with a dramatic fire at the Fenice opera house. Arriving in Venice three days after the fire, Berendt becomes a kind of detective—inquiring into the nature of life in this remarkable museum-city—while gradually revealing the truth about the fire. The fire and its chaotic aftermath, along with corruption and crime, contribute to the ever-mounting suspense of this brilliant nonfiction book. Carter curator Maggie Adler will share some insight on the exhibition Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano and how the artworks connect to themes in the book.
You can purchase The City of Falling Angels in the Museum Shop.
American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request.
