Event Description
Birds were a constant presence in the lives of Fort Worth artists Scott and Stuart Gentling. As children, the brothers raised pheasants and took up falconry in their teens. Not only did the two artists have a passion for watching, hunting, and painting birds, they also delved into taxidermy to inform their painting process.
In this month’s Experts Talk on the Carter (etc.) lecture, hear about the art of caring for birds, both alive and dead. Morgan Grasham, a local artist who incorporates taxidermy roadkill into her artmaking practice, will share her expertise in relation to the Gentlings’ paintings and drawings. Robin Ryan, who works closely with vultures in her job as Supervisor of Animal Encounters at the Dallas Zoo, will share her expertise in bird training and conservation to help us better understand the Gentlings’ work.
