Event Description

Join us every second Thursday to connect with art through cocktails, conversations, and creativity. This month, gain insight into the exhibition Faces from the Interior: The North American Portraits of Karl Bodmer and learn about different ways Indigenous cultures are preserved.

Schedule

5–8 p.m.

Enjoy drinks in the Atrium and listen to a playlist of contemporary Indigenous musicians. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.

Check out the nine audio stops throughout the Faces from the Interior exhibition to hear the voices and insights of Indigenous knowledge bearers about their perspectives on artworks in the exhibition.

Explore your identity by drawing your own self-portrait inspired by the portraits of Indigenous peoples by Karl Bodmer. Led by artist Alisha Ashford. Supplies are limited to the first 200 people.

6–7:30 p.m.

Exhibition Talk: Tessa Wedberg, writer and filmmaker, will talk with artist Dr. Jessa Rae Growing Thunder about her contribution to one of the four short documentary films created for the exhibition Faces from the Interior: The North American Portraits of Karl Bodmer. Dr. Growing Thunder (Sisituwaη/Wahpetuwaη/Hohe) is a third-generation beadwork and quillwork artist. Following their conversation, both speakers will participate in a Q&A. Seating for the talk will be first come, first served.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be provided during the talk.

At 6 p.m., in the Carter’s Auditorium prior to the conversation, we will play the film Faces from the Interior featuring Dr. Growing Thunder and her family.
