Event Description

No talking. No food and drinks. No boot-scootin'. Come break the rules and say “yes!” to new art experiences at the Carter’s Second Thursdays! Each month you’ll find something different than the last—mingle with fellow art lovers, make art, and meet visiting artists, sometimes with live music and always with themed cocktails inspired by the Carter’s collection.

Schedule

5–6:30 p.m.

Listen to a happy-hour live performance by musician Andrew Skates. Skates is a highly regarded lead guitarist known for his traditional Country and Jazz stylings.

5–8 p.m.

Enjoy drinks for purchase, including a specialty ranch water cocktail. Carter members get one complimentary drink! Lite bites are available for purchase at the Carter’s Food Cart.

Design and decorate your very own custom patches. Whether you want to showcase your name or slogan, a fanciful club, or just a rip-roarin' design, it’s all about showing off your western flair and branding your own masterpiece! Led by Carter Community Artist Stuart Haussman. Supplies limited to the first 200 people.

5:30–8 p.m.

Explore the Library exhibition The Cowboy's Legacy: Past and Present and learn more about artists’ fascination with the American West.

6–7 p.m.

Watch artist Gregg Deal perform Teepugoobakwaetu Modu (Animals That Roam On The Earth), a performative element of his artwork included in the Cowboy exhibition.
Please note: Gregg Deal’s performance piece incorporates his holding prop firearms.

6:30–7 p.m.

Strut your stuff and come dressed in your best western wear to participate in our fashion competition. Best dressed will be judged by Laura Simmons, owner of Studio 74 Vintage, and will receive a small prize, including a gift card to Studio 74 Vintage, which was recently named one of the “World’s Best Vintage Clothing Stores” by Vogue magazine in 2024.

7–7:45 p.m.

Join a Carter docent to learn more about artists Charles Russell and Frederic Remington, whose western-themed artworks formed Amon G. Carter Sr.’s collection.

Join World Champion Instructor Tony New on the dance floor! Tony will be teaching two easy and fun country line dances that you can show off at the next honkytonk.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request. Please send us an email for more information.
