October 19, 2007 Target Is Sponsor of Family Fun Days at the Amon Carter Museum
Fort Worth, TX, October 19, 2007—The Amon Carter Museum has received a grant from Target to sponsor its Family Fun Day series. Target Family Fun Days, all of which are free, offer programs that introduce families to all that the Carter has to offer through fun activities like hands-on art projects, book readings by notable children’s book authors, interactive tours of the galleries, and more. The sponsorship makes it possible for the Carter to present these programs the second Sunday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. The first Target Family Fun Day, All About Art, takes place on Sunday, November 11. Each month will feature a new theme and new opportunities for fun and learning.
“These programs provide families with an opportunity to learn about art, culture, and American history together in a fun and informal environment–all at no expense,” said Director Ron Tyler. “The Fun Days we have had up to now have been very popular with families looking for a fun and rewarding way to spend a Sunday afternoon together. We are extremely grateful to Target, because now we can offer these events more often and with new, innovative activities that we hope will engage visitors of all ages.”
When children first arrive on November 11 for the inaugural Target Family Fun Day, they will have a souvenir photo taken with the Target Bullseye costume character, they will receive a special “passport,” which will get stamped as they participate in different activities throughout the museum near some of the collection’s best-known paintings. Hands-on art making projects will round out the afternoon, like creating watercolor collage landscapes, kid-sized self-portraits, pipe-cleaner stick figures and tote bags. Another highlight will be at 1:30 p.m. when children’s author Rachel Rodríguez reads from and signs her book Through Georgia’s Eyes, a story about Georgia O’Keeffe.
Since opening its doors in 1946, Target has given five percent of its income to organizations that support education, the arts and safe families and communities. Today that translates to $3 million every week.
“At Target we believe that exposure to the arts helps build strong communities and opens our minds to different cultures, traditions and points of view,” said Laysha Ward, vice president, community relations, Target. “For this reason, we are proud to sponsor Target Family Fun Days at the Amon Carter Museum as a way to make the arts more accessible to families in the Fort Worth area.”
