Everett Spruce, a member of the Dallas Nine artist group, was one of the most celebrated Texas painters in the first half of the 20th century, known for his modernist Texas landscapes. The Everett Spruce Papers covers 1927 to 2010, primarily 1940–2005, and consists of:

  • Correspondence: personal and professional correspondence from Spruce regarding the sales of his art and with family and friends along with records from Alice Spruce Meriwether on managing her father’s estate
  • Catalogue raisonné: sketchbooks kept by Spruce and documentation of his artworks through photographs of the pieces. Also includes inventories and database reports compiled by Alice Spruce Meriwether
  • Business Records: primarily records from Alice Spruce Meriwether including records of Spruce’s works, inventories of a gift to Southern Methodist University, and other lists of selected works. Also includes Spruce’s CV and Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Application
  • Ephemera: including pamphlets, flyers, brochures, clippings, family photo albums, and other materials
  • Publications: includes materials written about Spruce along with various publications collected throughout Spruce’s lifetime
